Happy 3 day weekend

I can't believe it is final Labor Day weekend. I love 3 day weekends. There are way to few of them. I just want to share a couple of really great projects that have been in the works lately. The first one is by my dear friend Kathy a wonderful talented crafter who takes our designs and just makes the most awesome creations. This is from our Castle Creation collection. Kathy has taken and made this huge so her little boy can actually play with it. She isn't quite finished with it but I just had to share a picture of the progress.

When completed her little boy will be able to have his own magical adventures. This was done by painting a back ground on sheet metal and laminating the characters and attaching magnets so he can play. Isn't this awesome.

2ndly my mom is the school librarian at Desert Chapel. Every year she does an awesome bulletin board and this year was Cat in the Hat. I cut the Cat in the Hat in pieces and once he was assembled he was 3 feet tall. I am personally quite proud of this, as it was the largest project I had ever cut.

It's another Happy Friday

First off Happy Friday it is my very favorite day of the week especially near 4 pm.

I just want to let everyone know, the Papyrus Jungle store is down for a few days. When we were trying to upgrade it, poof some files got corrupted and now we have to start from scratch. The great thing is with the upgrade there are a lot of new wonder features.

Also if you go to Main Street Arts and Crafts you will see a new addition to our Street. I really want to give a super warm welcome To Tyler and Nicki and their wonderful store All That Jazz Supplies
They go above and beyond the duty of supplying wonderful supplies for all of us crafters. I have ordered 3 times and 1 I am amazed at how it gets from one coast to the other in a couple of days. 2. How well it is packed, and 3. The quality of the materials they sell. It is beyond amazing. I have ordered some of the most awesome leather paper, and textured paper, and foils, and his chipboard are to die for. It all cuts like butter. Tyler and Nicki think about quality all the time.

All That Jazz Supplies

I can't say enough about this site. I ordered some really cool supplies from Tyler on Friday. Do you know within 5 minutes I had an email stating is was ready to ship. And I got it today. Now this is the postal service's fault. They even admitted it was there mistake. I would have had it on Monday. It was packed so nice to begin with. I ordered some of the leather paper. Which when you feel it, it really feels like leather, and I order some of the Animal Hide Paper, The texture is so awesome. These 2 items don't feel like paper at all. Gosh I don't know if I want to cut them they are so pretty.
Then I also ordered some of the foiling sheets. Well I had gotten some from Michaels. Don't waste the money. This foil sheets are so much better, Almost like very thin metal. Seriously, I know they will cut well, Tyler has done that for me already.

Check out his store you won't regret it. Great service, and the best prices for such high quality materials. You would never find this stuff in any craft store.

Boy has it been so busy. And the weather eesh, I guess summer is really here. Today I would like to showcase someone very special to me. Valerie Summers, yes I am very biased she is my 22 year old daughter, my pride and joy. She has taken up photography and has started her own blog

She has a really unique view on photos and she is the official photographer for Papyrus Jungle, and loves to think outside the box.

My Wacom Cintiq

If you look further down you will see the heart wrenching story about the ancient Cintiq I purchased, Now I never ever have asked God for patience, but this has been the most patient having to endure experience. The cable came on Monday morning at work. So I had to wait all day to get home. I finally got home. And would you believe this. We had that puppy up and running in about 5 minutes. Seriously you have to go check out the Wacom site and just watch the video on the Cintiq. No mine is the pretty big one (drooling all over my keyboard) Mine is almost 10 years old but it is my baby. It is my second best friend next to my Black Cat Cougar. This is one of the most remarkable pieces of equipment made. You work right on the screen. In fact it is designed for graphic artists. But hey us crafters need stuff also.

I know I have shared before but to catch everyone up. I am not an artist. I have no artistic ability at all. I can figure stuff out, but haven't really got an ounce of my own creativity. So being partnered with RJ Ogren is a crafters dream match. He draws these beautiful sketches and I make the patterns. Well now that I work directly on his designs, I actually feel I have some creativity in me. I can better control the work and details. And my hubby who is the Techno Geek of anything Adobe, has shown me some great tricks he learned from his Illustrator class. I will be shooting some video here this weekend to show you all how it is done.

I just found this blog tonite, Mary is a fellow member of the Black Cat US forum. Well I love her work. I wish I could do some of the stuff she is doing and I am going to bug her how she did it. Yes I can make patterns, but I need to learn how to use inks and stamps and such to bring out more detail. I saw this post and I love it so much.

I love the way she has done the bricks on the well, it makes them really pop and look like bricks, and the trees behind it. Love it. She has so many cute and neat things. Make sure you check it out and follow her blog. You won't be sorry.

This weeks Freebie

This weeks freebie is a dream box. I designed this my self, but a wonderful smart woman, named meme, gets all the credit for updating the pattern. In this zipped file you lots of goodies. I haven't gotten around to taking a picture of the new box. But it is a box with the front cut out, and you attach the letters inside, kind of like a shadow box. I used double sided pattern paper, and then cut the letters out with the outside box color. One tip though, if the inside of the box is light colored then use a darker paper for the letters and vice versa if the box is dark. You really want them to stand out. The other 2 are a cube with the letters welded and cut out, and a plain cube and you can glue the letters on the outside in a contrasting color.

As always this will be up for a week, then off it goes to the store.

Wacom

On almost all the forum I belong too, I have stated for at least 2 years that I want and need a Wacom Cintiq. Mind you until last week I didn't ever think I would get one. The one I ultimately want is 2000.00 a 21" screen that you work directly on. Nothing like the bamboo tablets. Well, I found an older smaller one on Ebay got a great deal on it. It came in pristine condition. Well it was missing one tiny thing, a USB cable. Now when I say USB cable we all know what that is. But no Wacom makes theirs special. Round on one end like an S video cable and usb on the other. Needless to say, this cable is impossible to find any where in the world. So I called Wacom, and asked them if they could give me the mapping for the cable (way to technical for me). The day I called was right before Memorial day and they were closing early. So Tuesday, I decide they can't help, so I got the bright idea of googling the same thing. Well lo and behold I found a really great site that had it. I called my wonderful Techno Hubby and he said if he had the mapping he could make it. No sooner had I emailed to 3 different emails (so I wouldn't loose the site), did my phone ring. It was Wacom. No they couldn't give me the mapping, but (extra long pause on the phone). They actually found a brand new cable in the repair shop. And guess what it is for the one I bought. I asked how much for it and shipping. This is what the nice young man told me. Suzan, we feel really bad for all you have been through trying to find this cable. We are sending it to you for free. I was shocked. Wacom didn't owe me a thing, I didn't buy from them (well if I could afford it I would). I guess the moral of the story is. There still are really great corporations out there. These guys didn't have to give me the time of day from the first call. But they took the time to look and help me out. Oh yes they are located in Washington.

Well I still can't afford 2000.00 for the 21 inch, and I don't know if I could justify spending that much since my site is so new. But let me tell you. I will one day buy from them because of their customer service.

I decided this week the file I am going to list is a cute multi-layered file called "Let's Bake Cookies". It reminds me of days when I used to bake when I went to my grandma's house. She made the best chocolate chip cookies ever. And they were always for my dad. Then were the perfect combination of crunchewie, with lots of chocolate chips and nuts. Yummy.

I was just on the Black Cat US forum and saw that Tyler had cut Ernie with some of his fabulous animal hyde and fuzzy paper. So I have to share the a picture of what he cut.

Shhhhhhh, he doesn't know yet I hi-jacked it. This picture is so awesome. 1 it shows how well my pattern cut. I have never seen any of my work, done by others, and second it shows how well his line of papers work on this design. I think it is a win win situation Don't you.

I truly dislike Mondays, the only good thing about a monday (unless it is a holiday), is that it is only 4 days and a wakeup until Friday. One of my favorite days of the week. I am so excited that you all are enjoying the free patterns. I really enjoy making them, and creating with RJ. And if you haven't checked his site out please do, you will see some really awesome things he creates. Visit his site at RJ Ogren check out his murals. WOW is all I can say.

Today I thought I would share some of my very favorite sites that I haunt all the time. These people to me are so talented I really am always in awe of the work they do. One of my favorites not only for her artistry but for her kindness and sweetness all the time is
Penny Duncan This is another WOW factor for me. Plus the fact she is such a talented person and has picked up using her Black Cat Lynx so quickly, plus a mom, wife, works full time, and still manages to come up with tremendous ideas.

There is a new forum in town, and don't let the name fool you. Black Cat US. It is a wonderful new forum, all are invited, even if you craft with finger nail clippers. It is filled with lots of wonderful, caring talented people also. That are really a ton of fun to be around.

Now for those wanting to learn inkscape, would have to be Inkscape Cutting Designs . So many knowledgeable people that know so much about Inkscape, they can answer questions regarding many cutting machines.

Hi Everyone, I hope you are having a super great Sunday. I can't believe we are now almost thru the month of May. Time flies by so quickly.

Some of you already know this but I wanted to share with the rest of you a little bit about Papyrus Jungle. It is part of a bigger picture a website of crafty people called

Main Street Arts and Crafts

It all started with an idea to design really unique svg patterns. And being I am not an artist, I was so fortunate to link up with R J Ogren a former Disney Artist. He sketches and I make SVG's. It has and continues to be one of the best experiences I have had with Crafting. We decided we wanted to have a site that would not only show our work but others as well. Hence Main Street Arts and Crafts. We still have quite a ways to go. And lots of shops to fill, but we are having a blast doing it.

So today I decided with R J's blessing that the free pattern this week would be one of his original designs. So I introduce to you. Ernie The Elephant. A fun multi layered pattern that I hope you all enjoy.

Now that you have all been able to preview my newest pattern, I would appreciate some feed back on it, please.

There are 2 ways I would like to offer this pattern, the first way is the way shown. Where you can cut the boxes and attach the lettering to give it some contrast. The second way which I haven't been able to accomplish yet would be to have the letter actually inserted into the box then you would have the ability to add a tea light (battery operated) into the box to light up the lettering. I love both ways. But which way do you like or do you like both. Hopefully I can cut the second way and get an example up this week. Thanks in advance and have a great day. New Pattern Coming

Good Morning all, I am so thankful it is Tuesday, Monday is over yippee. I just want to share a picture of the a pattern that will be going up on Papyrus Jungle in the next couple of days. Word Boxes. I have a girlfriend that wanted blocks with words for her babies room, and this is one of the ones I came up with. Look for it in the next couple of days.

Just some Useful Tips and Tricks I have found

I have found over the years with crafting some neat trips (tips and tricks) that have been pretty useful. We all know how expensive crafting can be especially with all the little accessories we just have to have.

Brayer - I actually just stumbled across this one last night at Michaels. They had in their dollar bins, little kid's rolling pins, made out of wood. This works just as well as a wood or rubber brayer.

Transfer tape for vinyl - I have some and not that it is horribly expensive but you know when you need it you are out of it, and you don't want to have to wait for it to be shipped. I have used Contact brand repositionable clear contact paper, but also after school starts Staples has rolls of Clear cover repositionable contact type paper. I wait until the school stuff goes on clearance and get it for .50 a roll. I tested it on one of my kanob patterns and it worked great, I would check it every week and it would peel off and not leave a residue at all.

Knitting needles - I have several sizes that I always buy on clearance, or if you knit you don't have to buy them. These work great for rolling the edges on projects like flowers and such. And if you have used a little too much glue and some shows around the edges, a needle works great for cleaning it up.

Dry wall tape - This product comes on a roll and really is a webbing, but one side has stick to it. So if you are cutting out a project that has small pieces or multiple pieces that need to stay together and gluing. Cut a strip off and putt the sticky side over your pieces on your mat. Carefully lift off, I always try to walk it off which means you kind of move it side to side instead of straight off, This seems to hold the pieces on better. Then lay the webbing down with the pieces face up and glue them. Then take your webbing and place on your project and press down. Just make sure not to use a lot of glue. When dry carefully walk the webbing off and viola all those itty bitty pieces are attached.

Weeding Vinyl - This has to be one of my absolute favorites. I use a program called Sign Cut, it is software that is available with the Black Cat Cougar machines, well worth the money. Although when I got my cougar, their weren't programs like MTC that worked with them. But their is a weeding feature that can make life wonderful and you can use these steps on any machine. What the weeding feature does is add vertical lines to your projet that stop right where your pattern cuts. This makes weeding your vinyl so much easier. Now to make your own weeding layer is super simple. Create a page that has vertical lines I would draw some straight lines about 3 inches in length across a page, and make several rows. Now when you have a project insert those lines as their own layer. The reason I only make them about three inches in length is so you can shorten or lengthen them in regards to your project, you can also delete the ones you don't need. I make about 3, 3" lines across and make about 4 or 5 rows of those lines. It really helps when weeding.

Re-Sticking your mats - I hate doing this, but mats are so expensive I make my self. First if you wash them with a nylon scrubber and some diswashing soap and warm water, and dry them you might find you still have sticky left. You can also use non-alcohol baby wipes this will help to get all the gunk off the mats as well. But if you have to re-sticky them, I have found Aileene's Tack it over and Over Again works nice. You mix it in a sealable plastic bowl, 50/50 water and glue. Tape off your mat and use a sponge brush. This dries fairly quick with in maybe 10 or 15 minutes, but I live in the desert so it might take longer in different climates. The great thing is that the left overs sealed in a bowl last, and if you wash your brush you can use it again. When I went into Michaels it was over in the glue section and is about 4.99 for a four ounce bottle which I figure will last a very long time.

A Wonderful Friday

Not only did I get to see the Wedding of Will and Kate, loved it. But got to spend most of the day with my hubby, and you know what was best about that, he took me to Michaels and patiently shopped with me for about 2 hours. Please also remember when ever you purchase or download on of our patterns you agree to all of our terms and conditions. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. I just wanted to share some upcoming things that will be happening.

Once we get 100 likes on our Facebook Page we will have a free giveaway again. The last one was a lot of fun. And I love being able to give away free patterns. Make sure to tell your friends to like our page Papyrus Jungle we are at 57 right now only 43 to go.

Hi and welcome to Papyrus Jungle. As you know recently Provo Craft has been involved with law suits and has settled with Make the Cut a 3rd party software. I find this so sad. The creators of this software have opened the door for so many people that love to paper craft, make scrap books, and all sorts of other wonderful projects. What Provo Craft doesn't understand is 99 percent of these people, would still buy their cartridges and all their other products. I know 1767 people make not seem like a lot. But Provo Craft needs to start listening to their consumers. It isn't some little facebook page that is upset. There are thousands of people that are dis-satisfied they just haven't vocalized it. There are lots of websites, and blogs that are offering wonderful machine comparisons. I will be posting links to these sites. The only 2 machines I could offer an opion on is My Black Cat Cougar which is number one in my book, and my expression.

To find excellent information please visit the Make the Cut Forum and also visit the Boycott Provo Craft page on Facebook. You will find a lot of wonderful information. Also if you are looking for a different cutter, make sure you get one that is compatible with Make The Cut Software, the best 3rd party cutting software in my opinion.
